How to Create an Easter Basket Scavenger Hunt

  1. Download and print out the clues I put together using clipart from Stockberry Studio.
  2. Cut the clues apart.
  3. Get a bunch of plastic Easter eggs.
  4. Put the first clue in a plastic Easter egg. Leave several jelly beans in eggs with the clue-filled egg somewhere your kids will find it. I'm thinking we'll put ours in a basket on the dining room table.
  5. Clue 2 - Repeat the jelly bean eggs with clue-filled egg thing in your fire pit, campfire circle, or wood stove. If you don't have any of these, skip this one.
  6. Clue 3 - Refrigerator or freezer
  7. Clue 4 - In the mailbox
  8. Clue 5 - On the toaster
  9. Clue 6 - Under or in a tree
  10. Clue 7 - Next to a computer or TV screen
  11. Clue 8 - In the microwave
  12. Clue 9 - Washer or dryer
  13. Clue 10 - By her toothbrush
  14. Clue 11 - On the printer
  15. Clue 12 - A place where you exercise or in someone's sneakers
  16. Clue 13 - Dishwasher
  17. Clue 14 - On the couch or a living room chair
  18. Clue 15 - BBQ grill
  19. Clue 16 - In the oven or on the stove
  20. Easter basket - In the car

The beauty of this particular scavenger hunt is that you can very easily leave one or more out. I numbered them to make it easier for you to know what to put where, but if you are cooking on Easter morning and need to leave out the stove/oven, go ahead! Just put the next clue in that spot and keep going. Or if you don't have a treadmill or a campfire pit. Or even if you want to make the hunt much shorter. Cut it down as you see fit.

Because this requires only about 15 minutes of prep, you could print these out and have them ready to go even the night before Easter.

You sort of have to wait until the last minute anyway. You couldn't hardly put the eggs and clues out before the night before!

I'd love to hear if you used these clues and how your kids liked them!

Update: I designed the original scavenger hunt in 2016, and my kids have gone crazy over them, each year requesting new ones. This year, my struggling reader asked for one she could do all by herself, and that's where this came from.
