234 would you rather cards
These cards are an awesome way to start big, juicy conversations with your kids about your values and interests.
- Would you rather lie to your parents or lie to your friends?
- Would you rather be constantly itchy or constantly hiccup?
The questions are a combination of seriously thought provoking and light and breezy. Some will make you puzzle your own thoughts, and some will make all of you laugh.
My family likes to keep this deck in the car for use on long trips and in restaurants.
What you'll need to enjoy these cards:
Cardstock to print the cards
A large rubber band to hold them all together
214 Conversation starters
Like the Would You Rather cards above, these cards will inspire big, juicy conversations with your kids and the whole family. There are really simple things here, like:
What is your favorite lunch?
What's your favorite Disney movie?
But there are also really deep things like:
What's the best thing about your life?
What's your greatest wish?
All the questions were carefully selected to get you talking with your kids in a really low key, non-threatening way - so that even your teens will open up and share their thoughts and feelings.
What you'll need to enjoy these cards:
Cardstock to print the cards
A large rubber band to hold them all together
Farkle rules
Farkle is a super simple dice game. On each turn, you roll the dice and score points. You can keep rolling until you farkle (and lose your points for that round) or until you decide to stop.
Farkle is great for building math skills, but more importantly, it's a great way to practice strategy and laugh together.
Games are an easy way to structure quality family time in a really easy going way. Your whole family will love Farkle!
What you'll need to enjoy this game:
Paper to print the instructions
6 dice (can be purchased at the dollar store for $1)
A cup to roll the dice (optional but helpful for smaller kids)
A pad or small notebook to keep score
A pencil or pen
Charades or Pictionary topics
Charades, where you silently act out clues, and Pictionary, where you wordlessly draw clues, are both super fun games - except that it can be downright impossible to come up with the words to act or draw!
This set makes easy work of either game by providing a full 45 topics for each season (spring, summer, fall, and winter), for a total of 180 individual topics!
What you'll need to enjoy this game:
Paper to print the clues
Scissors to cut the clues
A cup or bowl to put the clues in
A timer
A large whiteboard or pad of paper (Pictionary only)
A marker (Pictionary only)
Yahtzee scorecards
Yahtzee is another classic dice game. The scorecards from a typical set are included in this DIY family time basket. If you've never played before, you roll 5 dice. You have a series of different scoring options from 3 of a kind and 4 of a kind to full house and Yahtzee (5 of a kind). You will also have an option to score just the 1's or 2's or whatever. You keep the dice you like and then roll the rest. You can do this one additional time for a total of 3 possible rolls (but you don't have to roll the second and third times if you don't want to). At the end of your turn, you count up the points you've collected for whichever line you've chosen, and you write the total on the score pad. It's a lot simpler than it sounds.
There is a lot of strategy involved in Yahtzee, but you learn it as you go. It's one of my favorite games which is why I've included it here.
What you'll need to enjoy this game:
Paper to print the instructions
Scissors to cut the cards apart
5 dice (can be purchased at the dollar store for $1)
A cup to roll the dice (optional but helpful for smaller kids)
A pencil or pen
